3 minute guide

Add an ICS file from Gmail to iPhone Calendar

Get a calendar attachment out of Gmail, into Files and finally into the iOS calendar you choose.

Quick answer

Open the Gmail message, download or share the `.ics` attachment to Files, select it in ICSKit, review the events and add them to your iPhone calendar.

Import a Gmail ICS attachment in five steps

  1. Open the message in Gmail.

Find the attachment with a filename ending in `.ics`.

  2. Save the attachment to Files.

Use Gmail’s share or download control and choose Save to Files.

  3. Pick a location you will remember.

Downloads or a temporary iCloud Drive folder works well.

  4. Select the file in ICSKit.

Open ICSKit, start an import and browse to the saved attachment.

  5. Check and add the events.

Choose the destination calendar and confirm the import.

What if Gmail opens a preview but nothing else happens?

A preview is not always an import. Return to the attachment menu and save a copy to Files. Selecting the file from inside an ICS importer avoids depending on the limited preview handoff between Gmail and iOS.

If you cannot see Save to Files immediately, open the system share sheet and scroll through the available actions. You can also save to iCloud Drive so the file is easy to find from the picker.

Check an emailed calendar file before importing

Only open attachments from senders you recognize. Inspect event titles, dates, locations, notes and web links before adding them. If the message contains a large schedule, confirm the number and date range of events first.

Gmail may attach a file for a single invitation, while some services send a multi-event export. ICSKit can handle ICS imports and gives you editing and validation tools when the file itself needs attention.

The attachment is already on your phone

Finish the job with a direct file-to-calendar import.
