For a downloaded `.ics` file, save it to Files and import it with ICSKit. For an ongoing calendar URL, use Apple Calendar’s subscription option instead.
Add a downloaded ICS file to Apple Calendar
- Save the file.
From the attachment or download menu, choose Save to Files.
- Select it in ICSKit.
Browse to the saved location using the iOS file picker.
- Review the calendar entries.
Check dates and times, especially for events created in another time zone.
- Choose the Apple Calendar destination.
Select the calendar that should receive the events and complete the import.
Importing is not the same as subscribing
Importing copies the events that exist in the ICS file at that moment. If the organizer changes the source later, your imported events do not automatically update.
A subscription follows a calendar address and checks for changes. Apple documents this under Calendar settings: add a subscription calendar and enter the supplied ICS URL. Subscriptions are generally read-only. Use this route when someone gives you a live feed rather than a file.
Simple rule: If you downloaded a file, import it. If you received a calendar web address that should stay in sync, subscribe to it.
Choose the right destination calendar
Before adding a large schedule, decide whether it belongs in your personal, work, school or shared calendar. Keeping imported events in a dedicated calendar makes them easier to hide or remove later.
If a calendar is missing, open Apple Calendar and confirm the account is enabled. ICSKit can present the import flow, but the destination calendars available on the device come from your iOS Calendar setup.
